New Jersey Pest of the Season
Seasonal Pest Info
This season look out for Springtails & Stink Bugs. Neither are damaging to property – but the fact that there can be thousands of them in an area can be very distressing to homeowners. Not to worry – here’s what you need to know because there’s never just one...
Springtail Facts:
They sometimes enter homes under door thresholds. When they get inside, they go to humid areas. Rooms that offer the needed moisture often are basements, kitchens and bathrooms. They also find areas where there has been moisture damage. When the dampness is corrected, springtails will leave quickly or they will die. A thorough inspection is the first step.
Stink Bug Prevention:
- Seal cracks around windows, doors, electrical outlets, ceiling fans and light switches.
- Replace outdoor lighting with yellow bulbs, which are less attractive to stink bugs.
- Repair damaged window screens including screen attic and crawlspace vents.
- Use a vacuum to eliminate Stink Bugs indoors. Seal vacuum’s contents in a plastic bag and dispose of it immediately.
