Protect Your Pets and Family from Ticks
I Found a Tick! What Do I Do Now?!
Ticks are one of the last things you want to find attached to your pets and family members. These tiny blood-suckers can carry Lyme disease, so be careful when removing them.
1. Grasp the tick close to its head or mouth with tweezers. Pull it straight out with a slow and steady motion. Be careful not to leave the head embedded in the skin.
2. Clean the area thoroughly with soap and water.
3. Save the tick in a jar and watch carefully for the next week or two for signs of Lyme disease - muscle or joint aches, stiff neck, headache, weakness, fever, swollen lymph nodes, and other flu-like symptoms.
4. If all the parts of the tick cannot be removed, get medical help immediately.
